Toy Story 5 Trailer Sets The Beloved Duo Versus a Digital Device
Exactly 30 years since the first Toy Story movie was released, launching Pixar as a leading animation studio and bringing audiences to beloved characters like Woody (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now household names.
Coming in 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed recently, offering a glimpse into the plot but keeping fans wondering how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Spooks the Toys
The preview shows the young girl — who inherited the toy collection when he left for college — getting a brand new toy, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie acquires her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.
Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the toys seem to view it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it likely will.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
One thing the trailer doesn't touch on is what the sheriff is back with his friends in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (the actress), journeying with a carnival and assisting giveaway items find good homes.
Surely, Pixar will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him appear in Bonnie's room without warning is a little strange, though. It also raises questions whether his partner will have returned with Woody. And what about Duke Caboom (the star)?
Continuity from the Previous Film
At the very least, some aspects are continuing from the prior film. The final act the cowboy did before setting off for his fresh path was pass his symbol of authority to Jessie (the voice actor), entrusting her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser displays the badge pinned to her outfit.
Hopefully she is still the driving force among the toys.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on the scheduled date.
