The Red Devils Set to Sign Germany Striker Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.

A Marquee Signing for United

The forward, with half a year remaining on her deal, is known as a prolific goalscorer for her club and the national team. Having netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. This signing will be seen as a major coup for the WSL team.

Departure from Bayern has been anticipated since she was seen fighting back tears while applauding the German club’s supporters following a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

Reports in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its top forwards. According to reports, the formalities for the move have now been completed.

Reliable Goalscoring to Boost United's Attack

The experienced striker's signing is expected to provide a major uplift to United’s attacking options. She has been highly reliable with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven straight seasons, up to and including the last term, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She won the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Carrington

The acquisition of Schüller’s signature comes at a time when the club seem to be gathering momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes feature securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the mid-season window has brought further business:

  1. The signing of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since joining in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s extension, a senior figure commented: “Miyazawa is now a critical component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”

The new defender, having arrived from a club in the NWSL, said: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
