Shock as Popular South African DJ Gunned Down in Johannesburg.
A popular South African media personality and entertainer has been murdered in the nation's economic hub Johannesburg, causing national outrage across a nation grappling with persistent crime.
Warrick Stock, popularly known as DJ Warras, was attacked in the central business district on the afternoon of Tuesday.
Police said the forty-year-old presenter was approached by a trio of assailants, one of whom began shooting at him before fleeing on foot.
The reason of the attack remains unclear and no arrests have been made, according to authorities.
How It Happened
Authorities indicated that Stock was targeted as he was leaving a building near the Carlton Centre.
He had been present for hours at the building overseeing the installation of security systems, which had been illegally inhabited by squatters, it was reported.
"The report indicates the deceased was confronted by three unknown suspects after parking his vehicle, and they began shooting at him before fleeing the scene on foot," an official report said.
Surveillance tape reportedly depicted a man with dreadlocks and clad in what appeared to be a protective services outfit opening fire on Stock before making his escape.
The DJ sought to escape after he was hit but fell down on the opposite side of the road.
Officials noted that Stock had an gun that was not fired and nothing was taken during the attack.
Key evidence, like cartridges, were found at the scene.
Call for Public Assistance
Officials are asking members of the public who may have witnessed the attack to come forward.
"Evidence suggests they walked a long distance after the shooting, and police have been attempting to locate them to determine their location," remarked an authority figure.
Outpouring of Grief
His sister, Nicole Stock, said the relatives are devastated to come to terms with the loss.
"I am in shock. I don't have words," she said.
"It is clear he was a champion for numerous individuals. He addressed issues courageously about issues not many people were prepared to tackle. This is a devastating blow."
She appealed to the public to avoid sharing graphic images from the scene, explaining this was an extremely painful time, above all for Stock's young family.

Stock was the presenter of Ngicel' iVisa, a series that aired on a South African broadcasting platform.
Apart from his role as a presenter, Stock was engaged in various business ventures, including security provision, supplying elite guarding services and securing high-profile events across South Africa.
He was also understood to participate in real estate operations and was involved in building evictions.

His death has caused national trauma and prompted an flood of condolences from his audience, the government and political parties.
A government minister remarked he was outraged and heartbroken by Stock's untimely death.
"He expressed his views without fear or favour. He even criticized me and my actions as a minister. He was a shining model of who we should be," was his tribute.
A public representative said the "brazen murder of DJ Warras in broad daylight is a trauma for all South Africans".
A industry leader said that "DJ Warras was far beyond a TV personality. He was a talented storyteller, a passionate music lover and a generous spirit who brought joy and energy to every performance. His commitment to his craft left an indefinable mark."
In a statement, the channel he worked for declared Stock was known for his magnetism, approachability and quick humor, adding that his legacy "will be remembered".
