Pep Guardiola has admitted feeling "shame" after an exchange with a camera operator in the wake of Manchester City's 2-1 defeat at Newcastle this past weekend.

When the match concluded, a visibly upset Guardiola stepped onto the field and had heated discussions with the referee, Sam Barrott and Newcastle’s Bruno Guimarães, and also touched the broadcast crew's equipment.

"I said sorry," Guardiola stated. "I feel embarrassed, ashamed, looking back. It's not acceptable. I apologised after one second to the operator. That's just me. With a thousand matches under my belt I’m not a perfect person, I make huge mistakes."

"One thing is certain, I stand by my team and club, without a doubt. The reason why I want to defend my team is clear – because from my experience to win the Premier League we have to do 100 points, high nineties, or we fall short."

Team Standing and Manager's Take

The team sits in third and are seven behind the Gunners following their fourth loss of the season. "Losing four games out of 12 means we must do better," Guardiola admitted. "Technically, we can still achieve all."

The manager was asked about a potential quadruple was a realistic aim, Guardiola answered: "You are an experienced journalist, have you ever heard me about the quadruple last winter when we won the quadruple? No."

Guardiola would not be concerned should a rival coach spoke to his players right after the final whistle. "Not if it's respectful like I always have done, it’s not a problem," he noted, mentioning the referee. "He was part of it for 95 minutes, 98 minutes, he was involved. My God, very much so."

Debatable Calls

City were unhappy that the officials denied a spot-kick on a Schär tackle against Foden, while they also questioned if Guimarães was offside when Harvey Barnes scored the decisive strike. Pictures published later show he was level.

Upcoming Milestone

He will manage his century in Europe against Bayer Leverkusen on Tuesday. "It’s quite good, showing we compete annually," he said.

City have 10 points after four games of the league phase, and Leverkusen hold five.
