New York Jets Coach Aaron Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Make a Full Recovery After New York City Shooting

Jets head coach Aaron Glenn has stated that he recently spoke with cornerback Kris Boyd and is confident the athlete will recover well after being shot in central New York early Sunday morning.

Glenn noted that Boyd, currently in the hospital, was “positive” during a recent discussion.

“That’s what eases my mind, is that he’s feeling positive,” Glenn stated on Wednesday. “His wife and child, they’re in good spirits and he will come through this without issue.”

It remained unclear when Boyd would leave the medical facility, where his condition is described as serious yet stable.

“Don’t know just yet,” the coach said. “Yet I must mention, from our conversation, he felt really upbeat. Once more, that’s what gives me comfort, given his positive frame of mind and his words reflect that optimism.”

Authorities issued security footage earlier this week of a suspect in the attack on the player. What prompted the attack is currently under review and authorities said it’s not clear if Boyd was singled out. No other injuries according to reports.

The shooting happened in the early morning on Sunday near the famous arena and Times Square. Boyd, 29, was admitted to a local hospital after being shot in the abdomen, police said. The assailant escaped.

Glenn mentioned Boyd has occupied his thinking “a great deal” since learning of the incident. The coach said that Boyd and his wife just had a child.

“The first thing I thought about, he has a new baby,” Glenn remarked. “I thought of his spouse, worrying about his newborn and I want to make sure that he’s OK. Those thoughts dominated my thinking.
“There’s a process to this, that I won’t detail, but It is reassuring that he will recover excellently.”

Boyd hasn’t played this season, after joining the team, after going on the season-ending injured reserve list on August 18 with a shoulder issue that involved surgical repair.

He signed with New York as a free agent in March and was projected as a key part of the team’s updated special teams under the coach and ST coordinator Chris Banjo. But Boyd was injured during a training camp practice on 2 August and had to be helped off.

Boyd continued to be present all season long while healing from his surgery.

“He remains involved with our activities,” Glenn stated. “In fact, he attends every game. He is completely involved. To be one of the top special teams players in this league, he has excelled at supporting his teammates.”

Boyd, from Texas, began his career with the Vikings after being a seventh-round pick by Minnesota out of UT in the 2019 draft. He signed with Arizona in last year and then joined Houston’s practice squad after that. Boyd signed a one-year contract valued at $1.6 million with the Jets in March.
