McLaren Formula 1 executives Brown and Andrea Stella pointed to competitors for the collision between Piastri and Norris at the beginning of the US GP sprint event.

The Australian driver, leading his teammate in the standings by twenty-two points, bounced into his team-mate after making contact with Sauber's Nico Hulkenberg.

The collision took both team drivers from the race, along with Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso, who was on the inner side of Hulkenberg.

Team Executives Express Disappointment Over Crash

Brown, the team's CEO, commented to Sky Sports that some of the racing at the start was "amateur hour", remarking: "Obviously Hulkenberg made contact with Oscar and he had no reason being where he was."

The team boss Stella stated: "The reaction is that we are displeased that we didn't have the opportunity to compete."

"It is unexpected that some racers with a lot of expertise don't act with necessary care. Go to the first corner, ensure you avoid harming other drivers and continue."

McLaren indicated that the team principal was mentioning both Hulkenberg and Alonso.

Contrasting Views on the Crash

Nevertheless, 1996 world champion Damon Hill, commentating for a sports broadcast, said he believed the Australian had not shown enough understanding of the risks of the first corner of an F1 race when he decided to cut back to try to overtake his teammate.

Piastri had a better start than Norris and at first competed on the outside on the ascending entry to the corner.

But he then moved inside in an effort to get a run on his teammate on the exit, only to collide with Hulkenberg.

Racer Comments After the Incident

The McLaren driver said: "Less than perfect but I haven't seen what occurred, I attempted to cut back on Lando and we were both quite distant from the apex and then got a hit and it sent me into Norris. Unfortunate."

Norris said: "I just was struck, right? I was not at fault. Behind us things happened and I just got unlucky and was struck because of it. I am unsure. I need to review a bit more thoroughly. It's more people behind just being a bit reckless and we are the result of that."

The Aston Martin driver said: "At one point I thought I was in the right place on the inner side, but some vehicles came very fast from the outside switching back and then I was there in the center."

Hulkenberg, who had earned a best qualifying fourth, said: "Big frustrations. All the strong performance from the previous day in the trash. Just messy."

"Oscar turned in pretty aggressively trying to get the inside line and exit of the first corner but I cannot vanish."

"I had Fernando attack on the inner side and I was unable to see him any more. I aimed to provide room for him and then Piastri turned in and the collision was inevitable."

Aftermath and Team Response

McLaren will analyze the incident with their drivers but only after the event weekend. Both vehicles needed extensive work before qualifying session at 10 PM BST on Saturday.

The team principal said: "Overall disappointed but we take it on the chin, we are now concentrating on repairing the cars, there is a lot to do and then we will resume the weekend from there."

"Our team holds a competitive place from our competitiveness point of view so I trust we have the possibility to compete, compete fairly and utilize our capabilities."

"The points are the key thing, I don't want to talk about mal-intent, just prudence. A bit more care would be good for all involved."

Championship Implications

The race was taken by the Max Verstappen, who gained ground on both team racers in the championship - he is now 55 points behind the Australian and 33 behind of Norris.

Stella said: "The consequence is what the numbers says - we lost eight championship points with both racers, but we concentrate on ourselves. We have a highly capable vehicle and two strong drivers. We look forward to just some standard competition."

The Red Bull driver said he was taking the championship race by race.
