Line of Duty Announced for 7th Series on the British Broadcaster
The acclaimed crime series AC-12 will make a comeback for its 7th season, announced by the broadcaster.
An upcoming six-episode season written by Jed Mercurio starts production in Belfast in the coming months, according to the network.
Vicky McClure expressed excitement about the return, stating she was "so excited" about the series' return. Adrian Dunbar added, "What a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be reuniting together next year."
The last season wrapped up in recent years with a finale that attracted more than 17 million audience members. Speculation about a potential return have been circulating ever since, but confirmation only arrived recently.
Fresh Obstacles for AC-12
The seventh season begins with the anti-corruption unit having been disbanded and renamed as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, as revealed by the announcement.
Steve Arnott, Vicky McClure's role, and Adrian Dunbar's part continue tasked to tackle corruption within the law enforcement.
Their work "faces unprecedented challenges", and in this climate, the trio will take on their "most delicate case to date."
New Character and Complex Case
A new character, Det Insp Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charming officer celebrated for takedowns of criminal networks, faces allegations of abusing his position to become a sexual predator.
Yet, this investigation could be a deliberate distraction from a larger danger still operating in the shadows, the teaser suggested.
Speaking about the renewal, the creator said: "Everyone involved are deeply thankful to the dedicated viewers."
"We're privileged to have had so many fans watch the ups and downs of the unit over six previous seasons and we are thrilled to be coming back for a new season."
He added: "Corruption in the UK was thought to be over while Line of Duty was off air, so I've been forced to use my imagination."
Actor Responses
The Scottish actor called being part of the police drama as "the role of a career".
"Not only the program's popularity but the people I've worked with I now call dear friends."
"I'm excited to pull the waistcoat on again and reunite with everyone," he added.
Vicky McClure remarked: "Obviously I'm so excited the show is returning! Can't wait to work with the creator, Martin and Dunbar again. Belfast, we'll see you soon!"
The veteran actor noted: "As we count down the unit days of Christmas, how exciting it is to know that the Three Amigos will be back filming soon."
"Delighted with the news and anticipating those unexpected plot developments."
Series Legacy
Line of Duty premiered in the early 2010s and became a highly successful TV dramas of the last decade, featuring notable actors such as Stephen Graham.
The BBC haven't revealed when the upcoming series will hit screens.
The finale of season six drew the long-running storyline about the search for criminal mastermind known as "H" to a close, and the creative team indicated at the time there were no intentions for additional seasons.
Nevertheless, the corporation confirmed on Tuesday that a seventh series is now in development.
