Citizens have assembled across the country to mark the second anniversary since the Hamas-initiated attack on 7 October 2023, as discussions proceeded in Egypt over an end to the war in Gaza.

The assault resulted in more than 1,200 people killed and 251 others taken away to Gaza as prisoners. It was the most deadliest day for Jews since the World War II.

Israel reacted by initiating a armed campaign in Gaza which has killed more than 67,000 people, based on figures from the region's Hamas-administered health ministry. Its numbers are regarded as accurate by the UN and other international bodies.

"The bloodthirsty opponents have caused great damage, but they have not overcome us," the prime minister added on that day.

He also pledged to "achieve all the aims of the war: the release of all the abducted, the elimination of the Hamas administration and the guarantee that Gaza will no longer create a threat to Israel".

Memorial Events Across Israel

The government authorities delayed official commemorations until mid-October - after the conclusion of the religious holiday season - but ceremonies still were held around the country on Tuesday.

A commemorative event for the loved ones of Israeli citizens killed in the Hamas assault was conducted in Tel Aviv. Arranged by the families themselves, it was broadcast across Israeli broadcast stations.

Some time earlier, a minute's silence was respected throughout the country.

Peace Discussions in Egypt

Meanwhile, the conflicting parties' representatives gathered in the North African Red Sea resort of the Egyptian city for a follow-up session of indirect talks to review the terms of the plan.

A senior representative familiar with the negotiations said that an evening round of mediated discussions began at 7 PM local time.

The source stated the earlier meeting finished without significant progress, because of conflicting views over the suggested Israeli withdrawal maps from Gaza and over safeguards Hamas wants to make certain Israel does not recommence hostilities after the initial stage of the deal.

He commented that the discussions are "difficult and have still not achieve any significant progress," but noted that intermediaries are making efforts to reduce the gaps between the conflicting groups.

Key Issues in Talks

  • A permanent ceasefire
  • The exchange of the captives still kept by Hamas for inmates from Gaza
  • The removal of troops from Gaza
  • Measures for relief supplies deliveries
  • Post-war administration of the area

Civilian Reaction

In the city's Hostages Square earlier, 29-year-old Hagar - whose sibling lived through the attack on the gathering, where 378 people were lost their lives and numerous more were abducted by Hamas gunmen - shared: "No place seems like home now and until all the hostages are released no one will be secure."

"After we see all home again, we can feel relief anew. Then we can begin to recover," she added.

Outside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's residence in the capital, people gathered to show their solidarity for the loved ones of the hostages. Israel says nearly fifty continue in captivity in Gaza, approximately twenty of whom are considered to be surviving.

Activist one woman remarked: "It's necessary do every compromise necessary for the hostages to be released. But we truly desire assurances that we will be safe."

Opinion polls now frequently demonstrate that about 70% of Israeli citizens desire the conflict to conclude in as payment for the liberation of the captives.

Palestinian Circumstances

At the location of the gathering, grieving people gathered to honor the dead.

From that location, the noise of Israeli air strikes and explosions could be noticed just a few kilometres away in Gaza, where witnesses reported the heavy Israeli bombardment continued.

In the urban center, attacks were reported in the early hours of Tuesday in the western neighborhood, area and Nasr areas and in the east side neighbourhood of Sheikh Radwan, as well Shati refugee camp to the north-west.

"Once the evening falls, the fear comes with it," displaced Gaza City resident a local woman, whose teenage son was killed by an Israeli air strike earlier, explained.

"My family are afraid of the air strikes. Throughout the evening we are resting together, embracing, particularly my youngest child who puts his face on me all night."

"Continuously we monitor the updates to see developments. And I'm afraid that this truce will not be finalized and that the conflict will resume to us."

Health Crisis

Al-Shifa hospital in Gaza City said it had accepted the corpses of several people by the afternoon, including three who died in an Israeli attack in the southern district.

Another medical facility in the south region of that area indicated two more fatalities had been delivered. An individual was lost his life by Israeli troops while seeking help to the southern area, medical staff stated.

Gaza's health ministry announced a significant number of the {territ
