Followers Demand Arrest of Man Who Touched Ariana Grande
Loyal supporters of the pop star are calling for that a person who jumped a barrier and seized the celebrity during yesterday's Wicked: For Good premiere be taken into custody or deported from Singapore.
A viral video depicts the person identified as Johnson Wen bypassing photographers and rushing toward Grande while the actors proceeded down a event pathway surrounded by supporters.
Co-star Cynthia Erivo immediately guided the shocked actress away from Mr Wen, who was observed being removed of the gathering by event staff.
Mr Wen posted on Instagram recently that he was "let go after being taken in", though official papers indicated that he was scheduled to attend court on Friday morning. It is uncertain if he was faced legal action.
History of Event Invasions
This is not the first time for Mr Wen, who calls himself a "Controversial Figure", has disrupted a celebrity gathering. His Instagram profile includes recordings of him disrupting other star-studded functions, including breaching the performance area at the pop singer's Sydney concert in June this year and in a like fashion during The Chainsmokers concert in the city last winter.
"Steps should be implemented applied against him as this is clearly a criminal offence," commented an Instagram user, in a response to a video Mr Wen posted of his behavior.
"You've done this repeatedly... how are you not behind bars?" another Instagram user remarked.
Supporters Voice Worry Over the Star's Past Trauma
Many supporters accused Mr Wen for "causing further distress" Grande, who had discussed dealing with trauma-related anxiety after a terrorist explosion at the end of her May 2017 show in Manchester, resulting in the death of 22 people and harming numerous individuals.
"After everything she's faced... including the Manchester attack, you considered it entertaining to rush the barrier?" commented one more comment on Instagram.
Some attendees also questioned security officers at the gathering for not being sufficiently alert; while some called for social media platforms to remove Mr Wen's uploads.
Reaction and Premiere Information
In videos circulating online, Grande looked shocked when she was grabbed by the individual. Her fellow actors Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be spotted reassuring her while Mr Wen was led out by staff.
Grande has remained silent on the situation, and the remaining proceedings proceeded as normal.
Many of attendees had assembled in a crowd of colorful attire at the Wicked: For Good international debut in a Singapore venue, including a number who had stood in line for as long as eight hours before it began.
The motion picture, to be premiered on November 21, is the second of a dual version of the acclaimed Broadway and West End show Wicked, which focuses on the surprising friendship between two contrasting sorceresses.
The musical itself is a derivative of the 1900 story The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who acts as the good witch Glinda, was decked out in a light pink sparkling outfit at the event while Erivo, who acts as the wicked witch, wore a black tube gown embroidered with roses.
They were alongside cast member Jeff Goldblum.
The first movie, Wicked, was the highest-grossing film of last year in the UK, and scored ten Oscar nominations, winning a pair for outstanding attire and artistic direction.
