A Pig's Tale: Pig Named Six Seven Pardoned by Miami Dade County Mayor.
While perhaps not at the identical stature as pardoning Thanksgiving turkeys, but the Miami-Dade County mayor had her own presidential-style act this week by ritually sparing the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This pig is innocent. She deserves this act of mercy. No offenses are on her docket,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with inescapable allusions to the vast quantity of pardons issued since the commencement of a new presidential term.
“If we disregard eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” the mayor added. “May this pig enjoy a lengthy and joyful existence free from concern.”
The gathering, simultaneously observing and challenging the region’s Hispanic tradition of eating roast pork during the holidays, was founded to replicate the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.
The pig, donated by a local firefighter, was named for the modern linguistic fad of young people yelling “6-7” – inspired by a rap song lyric – often seemingly at random. The trend became so widespread that a prominent word reference recently declared “six-seven” its top term for the year.
A Future Secured
Six Seven the pig is now destined to live out its days at a countryside refuge “away from grills and cookware”, according to the event’s official press release.
“This swine clemency has become one of our favorite ways to open the holiday season,” said the cafe owner, in a decidedly positive message.
“It represents the spirit of Miami: joyful, diverse, and rooted in traditions that foster togetherness. Every time, we are honored to observe culture and compassion in a way unique to Miami.”
Guests enjoyed a plant-based fare of croquettes and cafecito as they marked the pig's pardon.
